After a long break due to the impossibility of carrying out scientific activities and finding his own way in life, it was decided to professionally master artistic skills.
The desire to convey on the canvas the harmony and beauty of the divine world became the realized motif of Ivan Chernov's work. The author tried his hand in different genres of art. A number of watercolors and pastel works were not affected as much as the play of oil glazings. The superrealism of oil is a total genre in which the talent and skill of the artist is fully manifested.
Since 2006, the paintings of the novice artist Ivan Chernov were exhibited at the well-known exhibition-fair in the Odessa City Garden, which then moved to Cathedral Square in the center of Odessa.
Since 2007, Ivan Chernov has been a member of the Odessa Society of Artists-Painters "Creativity".
Initially, in the landscape painting of Ivan Chernov, one of the important roles is played by the marine theme, the beauties of the Black Sea are conveyed in countless paintings, including: “Emerald waves of the Black Sea”, “Near the Odessa coast”, “Rainbow coast of Crimea”, “Mother-of-pearl dawn over the sea ”, “The coast of my soul”, “Velvet season by the sea”, etc. An interesting fact is that the painting "The date by the sea", executed in super-realism, is autobiographical: it depicts the artist himself with his wife.
Many works are devoted to the landscapes of the Urals, where the artist's ancestors lived: "Ural", "Morning on the Sakmara River", etc.
A number of landscapes were painted in the city of Nikolaev, where at one time the artist lived with his wife. It reflects the beauty of local parks and the coast of the Southern Bug, a picturesque spring and the life of his wife's home.
The most widely represented in the landscapes is the artist's favorite season - autumn: early and late, cloudy and gloomy, sunny and clear, elegant and completely devastated ... Canvases such as: "Autumn Day", "Autumn after the rain", "Amber transformation of autumn", "Melody of Autumn", "Path to Autumn", "Echo of Autumn", "Lyricism of Autumn", etc., which reflect the beauty of autumn parks and wildlife, are very fond of connoisseurs of art from all over the world.
Charming fabulous winters are depicted in numerous canvases, including: “In the gentle embrace of winter”, “January. Epiphany frosts”, “In the silver patterns of winter”, “Mother-of-pearl radiance of winter”, “Snow treasures”, “Winter whisper”, “Purple dreams of winter”, “Emerald February”, etc. captivate with their beauty.
The mood of spring and summer is vividly conveyed in a number of paintings dedicated to this theme of landscapes: “Crystal March”, “First Morning of Spring”, “Breath of Spring”, “Smile of Spring”, “Bridge of Inspiration”, etc.
The wonderful world of flowers is presented in still lifes, where peonies, lilacs, daisies, sunflowers and wild flowers play the main roles. Most of all, the author gives preference to peonies, the amazing play of colors and the play of petals of these royal flowers can be seen on the canvases: “Peony Miracle”, “Peonies in the Rays of Dawn”, “Peony Dreams”, etc.
Animals performed by Ivan Chernov are very interestingly depicted: graceful lionesses, a fox and birds are reflected on the canvases.
The painting of an elite estate in the Kherson region became a continuation of the theme of landscapes and, in fact, an exam of creative strength and skills. The total area of the canvases is 120 m2, and the time of writing is 4 years from the life of the artist. Quiet backwaters of the Dnieper with snow-white water lilies and characteristic inhabitants of the wetlands, vines in the rays of dawn with moths lurking in the foliage, the gentle warm sky of Tavria in the wild rose bushes - the world that is imprinted on the walls and ceiling of a wonderful estate. The author's solution for painting the walls of the pool was made in mosaic realism, which became a godsend in his personal work, and elements of mosaic formed the basis of some subsequent works (for example, "Lilacs in the Garden").
The wondrous world of the Dnieper wetlands has become one of the favorites in the artist's work. A series of works dedicated to these wonderful places has beautiful author's titles, in which such epithets as: charmic, grace, picturesque, royal, etc.
The opposite to writing wild nature are cityscapes. Thus, native Odessa is also widely represented in the artworks by Ivan Chernov: famous streets - Deribasovskaya, Pushkin, Gogol, Zhukovsky, Preobrazhenskaya, Gorsad, temples of Odessa, the Opera House, parks, beaches, etc. The series of works dedicated to autumn on French Boulevard is impressive. Five large canvases adorn the interior of an elite residential complex on the aforementioned street.
Ivan Chernov painted Orthodox icons that are in the churches of Odessa and the region, as well as in the homes of believers.
One of the aspects of the artist's work was the test of himself and, as a result, the successful writing of copies of the artworks of famous authors: seascapes of I.K. Aivazovsky, "The Persistence of Memory" by S. Dali, sailboats by Marek Ruzhek, "Moonlight Night on the Dnieper" by A.I. Kuindzhi.
The canvases of Levitan I, Taoshi Hu, Milyukov A., Tutunov S. And Yushkevich V.N. inspired Ivan Chernov to search for and embody his vision of the works of these remarkable artists. Thus, paintings were painted based on their motives.
Since 2018, Ivan Chernov has become a multiple winner of the American contest Artist of the Week in the ArtGalleryInternational Facebook group. The paintings "Charm of the Dnieper floodplains", "Autumn in Sofievsky Park" and "Silver February", "When the Sea Calls ..." were selected from more than a hundred works of artists from around the world and took first place according to the results of voting by the audience.

Outside of Ukraine, the owners of works are residents of: Russia, Belarus, Vietnam, China, Sweden, Switzerland, Australia, USA, Poland, Canada, Estonia, Israel, Norway, Peru, Latvia, Kazakhstan. The work of Ivan Chernov was described in verse by the poetess from Kazakhstan Zhenya Litvinova:
The paintings of Ivan Chernov inspired poets to write poems: "To be spring" (Ellenita Gutiero) based on the work "Tomorrow spring will smile at us" 2021; poems "Tomorrow will be a spring!", "Winter will meet us with miracles!", "Where February meets spring" - Zhenya Litvinova (2021-2022); "When autumn plays on the strings of cobwebs" - Alexander Safonov (2021) and others.
Today, the artist not only continues to write original artworks, but also actively searches for the right artistic solutions to achieve the perfection of his artistic skills, the main task of which was and will be to convey the amazing beauty of God-given existence.
